Asia OSS Symposium, which has changed its name to Asia OSS Conference and Showcase, have been held since March 2003, and Asia OSS Conference and Showcase 2008 commemorated 10^th event with the title of “Asia OSS”.  

This 10^th AOSS was held in Guangzhou, China, on March 13-14, jointly organized by CICC, Japan; Guangdong Linux Center (GDLC), Hong Kong Computer Society (HKCS), Hong Kong Productivity Council (HKPC).  Around 500 participants from Asian countries/regions and other areas, as well as foreign and local sponsors joined this event, under the theme “OSS Meets Business Here”.

As you all know, as a result of our joint-initiatives, we have witnessed in the past five years the promotion of OSS has growed independently among various economies. This has been possible by the establishment of key networks of people, starting with all of you who are present here today, combined with implementation of policies for OSS use by each of the Asian governments, cooperation among companies though use of OSS, as well as launch of many domestic and international events on OSS.

With the understanding that the Asia OSS events have successfully accomplished its purpose, we have announced to make the AOSS 2008 the last AOSS event hosted by CICC.

For the future, Asia OSS Conference & Showcase will be continuously held by Asia OSS Center members. CICC would like to cooperate those future activities as follow-up, based on our experience and know-how to hold and promote those events.
